We didn’t manage to talk about Android: Netrunner last month, so we’re going to try again this month. Our recent symposia have talked about immersion; I think two-player games (perhaps especially board games, or at any rate turn-based games) depend on immersion in a particularly unique way. I’ve been going through Hikaru no Go recently, for example, and chapter 91 presents a match where Hikaru first wonders how Sai would play in a given situation, and then wonders how Waya would respond. Also, reading through Player of Games has made me wonder how philosophical premises express themselves in game playing; Android: Netrunner might be an interesting game to talk about in that context, too.
So maybe we’ll talk about that. Or maybe we’ll talk about something else. Or maybe we’ll just spend the whole time playing; I imagine we’ll have a match or two going on OCTGN. But people who want to talk and not play are more than welcome; one of the advantages of turn-based games is that they leave ample room for discussion.
We’ll meet on Thursday, July 11th at 9:30pm EDT / 6:30pm PDT. Voice chat over Mumble, the server is mumble.vghvi.org port 6662, let me know if you need the password.
Really looking forward to it. I’m going to have some OCTGN start-up issues, but we can certainly converse while I’m getting them ironed out!
Yeah, I should go update OCTGN myself…
